Property Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights
Your rights as a property taxpayer in Texas
In Texas, local goverments are given jurisdiction to set rates and collect property taxes for the use of funding schools, streets, roads, police and fire departments, and other public services. Texas does not have a statewide property tax. Local governments may include counties, cities, school districts, and special purpose districts.
Texas law requires that the methodology and process of determining property values, setting rates, and collecting taxes are equal and uniform. As a taxpayer, you have the right, codified by state law to remedy dissatisfaction with your appraised property value for the purpose of taxation. Ortiz Property Tax Consulting helps you exercise your rights by disputing your property tax bill on your behalf.
The State of Texas codifies this and other taxpayer rights in what’s called the Property Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights.
